Trump fires White House’s first female chief usher
May 9, 2017
The Trump administration has fired the White House chief usher who is known to be the first woman and second African-American to hold this position. The White House residence staff was told Friday morning that Angella Reid, elected by President Barack Obama, had been fired, without offering an explanation, the Washington Post reported, citing a source.
White House officials wished her the best but declined to show their information. Reid is the third usher to be taken out throughout this time period and the first since first lady Hillary Clinton fired an usher in 1994 for acting disloyal.
What does a White House usher do?
White House ushers are on duty 24/7, taking care of the first family’s needs and overseeing the staff, including chefs, florists, maids, butlers, chefs, carpenters and other workers who take care of the presidential residence.
What role did Reid play?
The chief usher in particular works closely with the president and his family.
Reid replaced the first African-American chief usher, Adm. Stephen W. Rochon, after he took a job at the Department of Homeland Security. Ushers generally serve long terms in the White House and there have been just nine since 1900.Reid was believed to be only the third usher fired from the job.
However, many people are still questioning why Trump has decided to go on further with this action since an usher hasn’t been fired since Bush’s & Clinton’s presidential term.
