On October 18, people all over the US gathered in their respective states for the No Kings Protest. The protest concerns how some Americans deem what Trump and his administration are doing as monarchical and not democratic, saying he is acting as if he’s a king and that he’s above the law. The movement’s slogan, “America has no kings,” was used as a reminder to the American people that America was founded on people not wanting a king, showing that the power should rest with the people, not a king or a government.
The protest took place in all fifty states, with millions participating in peaceful protests. Participants carried signs such as “No Kings,” “Defend Democracy,” “No Tyrants,” and “We The People.”
Many People who attended the protest saw it as a way to call out the government and remind them that they work for us, we don’t work for them, and a call to restore accountability in the government.
People against the protest called it the “I Hate America” protest. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, in an interview at Capitol Hill, said the rallies were “Hate America Rallies” and said the people who attended were “Marxist, socialists, and antifa advocates.” Many other people against the No Kings Rally said whoever attends hates the country, and that the liberals are overreacting and fear-mongering.

According to the organization website, nokings.org, the focus of these protests is the people trying to remind the government that is country was founded on going against tyrants. A reminder that resisting tyranny and monarchy is one of the most American things you can do.
Some at the rally made clear that just because they are anti-Trump doesn’t mean they love what the democrats are doing either, they want the whole government to be held accountable and reevaluate themselves.
Roosevelt High School Ap Government teacherĀ Troy Pourchot said, “I have no opinion on the protest itself, but I know the people were exercising their rights.”
