Taylor Swift is one of the most famous pop stars in the entire world. With various records and many awards from previous albums, she released her twelfth album, “The Life of A Showgirl,” on October 3. She announced the album on August 1, on a sports podcast.
On Jason and Travis Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast, Swift expressed that she wrote this album based on what was “going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour.” She continued that this, “was so exuberant and electric and vibrant.”
Instead of collaborating with Jack Antonoff, who produced the sound of her last two albums, “Midnights” and “Tortured Poet’s Department,” she collaborated with Max Martin and Shellback. The pair had worked on a couple of her hit songs, such as “Shake It Off” and “I Knew You Were Trouble” years back. Swift’s overall goal was to make a full, compact album with nothing but “bangers.” They would have melodies that “were so infectious that you’re almost angry at it.” Her fans as well as her haters have something to say about this new arrival.
The album was intended to be joyful and upbeat. However, many are disappointed, including her own fans. This is mainly because of the poor wording of the lyrics. Another reason some may have disliked the album was the fact that the songs fail to fit the theme. Some critics even say Swift almost sounded as if she were “writing from a perspective of a thirteen-year-old or sixteen-year-old girl.” The concept of it being “bland” or “boring” is also mentioned among the critiques. On the track, it features a song called “Actually Romantic,” which many have recognized as a diss track. Eventually, this caused a feud between Swift’s and Charli XCX’s fans. Earlier last year, the artist Charli XCX released a song about how she feels about a pop star more successful than she is. Swift seemingly took this to heart and later wrote her own song dissing Charli XCX afterward. This then led some to dislike the album even more.
A handful of fans did enjoy the album, though. The happy vibes were a nice contrast to the depressing ones of her last album. The difference is apparently refreshing to the people who liked the tracks. A couple of loyal fans admit that the album sounds somewhat similar to her last albums.
“It sounds similar to her other albums; it isn’t that different,” Kylie Coburn, a follower of Taylor Swift, said.
