31 year old Puerto Rican music artist Bad Bunny is set to perform at the 2026 Superbowl Half Time Show, which was announced by the NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation on Sunday, September 28. Many people seem to be excited and happy for the Half Time Show, especially the Latinx community.
According to an article written by AP News, the singer stated how he felt about his upcoming Half Time Show.
“What I’m feeling is beyond myself,” Bad Bunny said. “It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown…this is for my people, my culture, and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPERBOWL.”

However, there has been controversy about Bad Bunny performing at the Super Bowl. Some people don’t agree with this choice of performer for various reasons. There are also a lot of people who do like this choice of performer and are interested in seeing the performance, such as Tyler Smith, a freshman at ERHS.
“I’m very excited because I really enjoy his music,” Smith said. “I think it [the performance] might make more people listen to and appreciate Spanish music and make it so the [Hispanic] culture is more represented.”
Smith also added her thoughts on the controversy currently going on.
“I think it’s ridiculous,” Smith expressed. “He’s a talented artist who was asked to perform and I think the people that are mad are just mad because they can’t do what he does.”
There are also many people who are opposed to Bad Bunny performing, including Danica Patrick, a former professional racing driver. According to an article written by Page Six, Patrick says that he shouldn’t perform at the Super Bowl because he has no songs in English.
“Oh fun. No songs in English should not be allowed at one of America’s highest rated television events of the year… not just for sports,” Patrick said in a Twitter reply.
I believe Bad Bunny performing at the Super Bowl will be exciting and fun. I feel that you don’t have to speak or understand Spanish to enjoy his Half Time Show, because a lot of his music has good beats and the songs are dance-able, even without the lyrics.
I think what the NFL is trying to get from this Half Time Performance is more views and revenue. Since Bad Bunny is a very popular and streamed artist, with 78.5 million monhly listeners on Spotify, the NFL is trying to get more people to watch the Super Bowl, and are hoping that Bad Bunny can do just that.
I believe that deciding not to watch the Half Time performance because of not having an interest in his music or enjoying other genres of music is understandable. Though, deciding not to watch the Half Time performance because he’s not a U.S. citizen or saying that all his songs are Spanish isn’t understandable. Bad Bunny is a U.S. citizen, as Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory. Music Artists like Coldplay aren’t from the U.S., yet he performed at the Super Bowl. Although his songs are all in Spanish, there have been other music artists that have performed at the Half Time Show that singed songs in Spanish, like Shakira. Bad Bunny’s music isn’t for everyone, but I find that there’s no need to hate on the artist or the NFL because there’s an option to not watch the Half Time performance without spreading negativity.
