Brent Faiyaz’s anticipated album “Icon” was not released as scheduled on September 19, leaving many fans devastated. No official statement has been shared by Faiyaz, leaving many to speculate online about what caused the delay.
Brent Faiyaz is an American R&B singer from Maryland. He is Grammy-nominated and went 3x platinum on his song “Dead Man Walking.” Faiyaz is known for his hit songs “Clouded” and “Jackie Brown.” He is also known for his features on “Crew” by GoldLink and “Dreams, Fairytales, Fantasys” by A$AP Ferg.
Many fans of Faiyaz are sad to see that the album was not only not released on time, but also without any official explanation.
Sophomore Brooklyn Stuart from Roosevelt High School shared her feelings on the delay.
“I am very disappointed,” said Stuart.
Another ERHS student, sophomore Giana Valdez, had stronger feelings.
“I think it’s a travesty,” Valdez said. “We were promised an album.”
A fan account of Brent Faiyaz on X, brentfaiyazbr, posted a statement claiming to have spoken to Faiyaz’s team and gotten an update.
The statement reads: “The album isn’t dropping today. This has been confirmed by me with Brent’s team. Brent canceled the release. I only received a reply about it this morning, because everything is still confusing, even to Brent’s team. Don’t take my old tweets into consideration, I didn’t have any info about the album when I posted them. I just got all the details this morning. I thought it would be obvious that the album was going to be released last night, that’s why I kept replying to everyone just 1-2 more hours.”
A speculation on social media is that Faiyaz delayed the album because of Cardi B’s album “Am I The Drama?”, which has seemed to be a big dodge for Brent because Cardi B’s album has already gone platinum a day after its release.
