The 2025 Masters is held from April 10 to April 13 at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, United States.
Rory McIlroy won the tournament after a play-off against Justin Rose. The 2025 Masters Tournament was the 89th edition of the Masters Tournament and the first of the men’s four major golf championships held in 2025. Rory McIlroy secured his first Green Jacket and completed the career Grand Slam.
The Grand Slam is a feat that has only been achieved by 6 players in golf history. Justin Rose was first after the first round with a record-setting 65 and maintained his strong performance throughout the tournament. Rory McIlroy started with a 72 but progressively surged with rounds of 66. He hit a birdie on hole 17 in the final round, which led him to be tied with Justin Rose for 1st at 11-under par. The championship concluded with a tie-breaker sudden death round on the 18th hole, where Rory McIlroy secured his victory with a birdie while Justin Rose hit par. Rounding out the top 5 were Patrick Reed in third, Scottie Scheffler in fourth, and both Sungjae Im and Bryson Dechambeau tied for fifth.
Rory McIlroy has been one of the most talented golfers of his generation. He has won more than 50 times around the world and reached number 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking for more than 100 weeks during his career.
According to ESPN, Rory McIlroy stated after Sunday’s round, “Today was difficult. I was unbelievably nervous this morning. Really nervous on the first hole, as you witnessed with the double, but as I said, that sort of calmed me down, and I was able to bounce back and show the resilience that I’ve talked about a lot. Look, it was a heavyweight to carry, and thankfully now I don’t have to carry it, and it frees me up, and I know I’m coming back here every year, which is lovely.”
I interviewed a freshman from Eleanor Roosevelt High School, Amber Pham, and she stated, “I’ve heard about him before.”
I also interviewed a freshman at ERHS named Erica Lin: “I think it’s cool that he made history.”
