“Brave New World” was a book written back in the 1930s, almost a full decade ago. During this time World War 1 was just finishing up, and it caused many emotions for many people. Aldous Huxley, the author of this novel, wrote this based on his worries about what the world would come to.
The book follows our main character, Bernard, and his perception of the world. Everything in this world is what Huxley was worried would come to life in the far future. Technology was becoming a huge thing, and Huxley used that knowledge to write this beautiful story.
Daniel Serna, a senior at Eleanor Roosevelt High School expresses his thoughts on the book, “I started reading the book for my Language Arts class earlier this year. My first thoughts were how interesting the world building and details made by the author, and how it was almost biblical for all the wrong reasons.”
Serna expressed how the building of this world was extremely detailed, as well as biblical in many aspects. When reading this book, many readers love this concept because it really shows how you can compare and contrast the current day-to-day life and what Huxley was worried about.
Despite the building of this world itself, the characters heavily impacted the story. Serna claims, “My favorite character was Mustapha Mond because he knows that the society is not right at all but sees it as necessary to keep society together rather than against each other.” Mustapha Mond was one of the main characters in the story, but was not on the good side.
Another main character was Lenina, a favorite stated by Peyton Hill. Hill exclaims, “I read the book both in high school and in college, and by far my favorite character was Lenina. It’s hard to remember the exact plot but Lenina was a favorite of mine.”

Each individual who reads this book has their own favorite character for their own separate reasons. Lenina was one of the characters in this story who really fed into that society despite how she disagreed.
My personal favorite was John, also referred to as John the Savage. John was known to be the outcast in this society because he was different than everyone else and from another place that differed from others. He was brought into society which really reflected my own opinions whilst reading this story.
Despite just the characters, I really enjoyed the storyline as a whole. There were so many details shown, and it was all based on pure guesses and fears about what the real world would become. The novel may have been written 100 years ago, but there is so much from it that really does affect today’s day-to-day life.
Overall, the book in my opinion was extraordinary. There were many details and you can tell that the author spent his time with this book, and how the plot was thought out beginning to end before he began writing.
