Spring break for the 2024 – 2025 school year at Eleanor Roosevelt High School begins on March 31 and ends on April 24. Many students look forward to spring break for relaxing, spending time with family and friends, and taking a break from schoolwork.
Spring break can be extremely beneficial to students by giving them a break in their academics. It’s also very important for students’ mental health to have breaks from school. Many students need time to balance all their classes, extracurricular activities, relationships with friends and family, and even jobs. Spring break is a great time for students to rest and take a break from some of their responsibilities that they would usually have during their school schedule.

A student at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, Kara Luong, agrees with the previous statements. Luong states
“Many families travel during spring break which is great for physical health. It helps students take a break from schoolwork and explore other opportunities in the world. It also gives people a chance for self-care, which some may not have time for during a normal school schedule.”
However, Luong also discusses how someone could be negatively affected during spring break.
“It could also affect someone negatively by maybe causing them to feel lonely or feel anxiety or depression.”
Spring break could also really benefit students academically. It can give them a chance to recharge and feel more motivated to complete work and pay attention in class. During spring break students have a chance to catch up in classes they may be behind in. They can review material, complete assignments, and get ahead in their studies. However a downside to spring break is students may lose momentum in their academics. A long break may disrupt study habits and make it harder to get back into a routine once spring break is over. It can also affect someone negatively if they plan to use the break to study but instead end up procrastinating.
A student at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, Olivia Mann, is excited to have a break from school and work to be able to rest. Mann states,
“I’m looking forward to spring break so I can have a break from school after working so hard. For me, when I get a break it resets me and helps me stay motivated to learn. Without one, I would lose motivation to be at school. Spring break makes me really happy because I get a week to do anything I want and can hang out with friends with no worry.”
Spring break can really be the boost to motivate students to make it to the end of the school year. It can help students who take advantage of it to get ahead in classes they are struggling with or even just to have a mental reset and take a break.
