The trade between the Texas football team and the Philadelphia Eagles team has shocked and excited fans.
The Texans are trading their left guard Kenyon Green for the Philadelphia Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson. The deal will also include the Philadelphia Eagles getting a 2026 fifth-round pick and the Texans getting a 2026 sixth-rounder. The Texans also agreed to a deal with free agent guard Laken Tomlinson, and were reported by NFL Network.
Gardner-Johnson has been a popular standout in the NFL. He was a key role in the Eagles’ success. He is known for his ability to play, and his physicality. The Texans will use the gain of Gardner-Johnson to fill the void of losing Eric Murray to the Jacksonville Jaguars on a three-year, $22.5 million deal in free agency.
Gardner’s ability to cover a wide range of positions in the secondary-safety, corner back, and even slot corner-gains a flexible advantage to the Texans defense. Gardner-Johnson joins a Houston pass defense that ranked sixth in passing yards allowed (201) and 13th in scoring defense (21.9).
In his interview with ESPN Gardner-Johnson states, “This decision wasn’t mine, but I walked away proud of what we built together. To my teammates: Brothers, we bled, cursed, and laughed through it all. To the coaches and front office: Thank you for trusting a kid from Florida with a chip on his shoulder to lead this defense. And to the Philly Faithful–you’re unmatched. You embraced my edge and fire, for this game even when I get too hot.”
However, this trade benefited both teams. The Texans gained a spirited defensive player and the Eagles strengthened their offensive line.
I interviewed an Eleanor Roosevelt High School freshman named Srinivasan Harini Sudharsan and he stated, “I am not sure because I don’t frequently watch football.”
I also interviewed another ERHS freshman named Ikleen Kaur and she stated, “I don’t watch football like that.”
