Over the last couple of months, a recent artist began to climb the ladder. Chappell Roan began to become extremely popular right before the summer of 2024. Last December, she was invited too and won a Grammy! This is all for her album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess”. The album was released in September of 2023 but did not gain much attention until a little before last summer. Some of her most popular songs are “Hot To Go”, “Femininominon”, and “Pink Pony Club”. Most of these songs are relating to being a lesbian and the struggles that come with having a queer relationship.

Many people listen to Chappell Roan for different reasons, such as Maddie Gonzales, a Junior at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, “My favorite Chappell Roan song is Femininominon because its lowkey an empowering bop.”

The majority of songs released by Chappell Roan have an upbeat tune to them, some have somewhat upsetting lyrics, but this song in particular is very upbeat and empowering to many people on the feminine side. There are people across the world who agree with Gonzales.

Some fun facts about Chappell Roan include how she won her first Grammy this year for her song, “Good Luck, Babe”. Some of her songs are based on her own personal experiences, such as “Pink Pony Club” and how it was inspired by a lesbian bar in West Hollywood, California. Chappell Roan is very heavily proud of how far she is come, and is appreciative to her audience!

Another student at Eleanor Roosevelt High School talked about their own experiences, Tk Serna explained, “My favorite song is ‘My Kink is Karma’ because it portrays a bad relationship ending but the one who ended it gets what they deserve, it shows how Karma works.” My Kink is Karma is a very well-loved song by many especially due to the message behind the song.

Serna continued, “The way Chappell Roan expresses herself through makeup and outfits is awesome, for example when she dressed as a clown and won a Grammy.” Many people across the world found it interesting how Chappell Roan managed to win a Grammy dressed as a clown, which is a first for this kind of event.

Overall, my personal opinions on the album are amazing. The messages behind each song show truly how much effort Chappell Roan has put into her career, how much love she has for her songs and her audience, and the way she expresses herself adds so much to each song. She uses symbolism in many different ways which is iconic. Overall, her songs are great for being both relatable to many, and overall upbeat as well as never failing to put someone in a good mood.
