The video game “Omori” was released in 2020 by its creator, Omocat. Omocat’s main inspiration for the game was other psychological horror games and her comic, “Omoboy.” The game follows the main character, Omori, as he processes the grief of his older sister, Mari. Occasionally, you’ll run into his friend group including characters named Basil, Aubrey, Hero, and Kel. Throughout the game, you see how they were before Mari’s death and after Mari’s death, indicating how they grieved.
A freshman at Cal Poly Pomona, Max Quan, really loved this part of the game.
Quan expressed, “I first played the game a couple of years ago. I really like Aubrey as a character because of her very realistic reaction to the events in the game and her progression.” Quan’s favorite thing about the game is Aubrey’s reaction to everything that has happened.

Each character represents a stage of grieving, which can be up to interpretation. This is one of my personal favorite aspects of the game. You get to watch how each character grieves and reacts to the death. As well as how they all think of each other and how they overall act now after years.
A senior at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, Andy Jorgenson, states, “I played the game roughly around 2021-2022. I enjoyed the first half of the game but I was never a fan of the RPG style so it was difficult to get through the end, however, my favorite part was how strong the horror sections were. It was able to utilize its medium really well to create a good atmosphere and create really engaging areas of the game.” Jorgenson loved the horror aspects, as the game is a Psychological Horror game. There was a multitude of disturbing moments but there were not any jumpscares. The horror being less jumpscares but more haunting made it even more interesting to play.
Overall, “Omori” is a great horror game with an outstanding storyline. The characters are extremely well-written and all have some kind of symbolism. There’s so much that you’re able to analyze within the game which makes it good to replay over and over to find different things.
