Eleanor Roosevelt High School has implemented a new bike Safety update. This update is intended to keep students safe and to help improve traffic. This update includes a new check in area, a new exit route, and restricted locking areas for students with skateboards, scooters, and bikes.
To enter campus, students with skateboards, bikes, and scooters may now enter campus through the gate between the pool and gym. During dismissal, the pool gate will be closed after school hours and students should plan accordingly to exit through designated routes. To ensure a smooth and safe exit, students riding bikes, scooters, or skateboards will be directed to leave campus by passing the blacktop area and continuing down the home-side fire lane. The designated path then leads to Scholar Way, past the student pickup parking lot.
Students can no longer lock bicycles or scooters to the handicap railings in front of the campus. These areas must remain clear for accessibility and safety reasons. Any bikes or scooters found locked in these restricted zones will be removed by school staff.

A student at Eleanor Roosevelt High School believes the new bike policy update has improved her safety entering and exiting the school. Emma Friestad states,
“I think the bike policy is working and it’s easier to get in and out of school. When we used to ride our bikes it was more dangerous because of all the traffic and cars. Going through the back way is safer.”
Another student attending Eleanor Roosevelt High School agrees that the new bike safety update has improved their ability to get to school safely. Sabrina Preciado states,
“I think the new bike policy is working a lot more compared to a few weeks ago and it definitely seems easier to get in and out of school with the new updates. The new check in area allows students to have better access without the hassle. Along with this, I feel like the new update is a lot safer than before. The designated exit route makes everything go smoothly without any issues. These procedures really reduce the campus traffic too.”
