One of the biggest social media platforms used around the world is TikTok. The United States wants to ban it because it is currently owned by China and the US fears China might use American’s data wrongfully and manipulate it. For this reason, TikTok usage in the US is being upheld in court. In court, it will be decided if the platform should be banned or sold to the US. Many people who use this app are against TikTok being banned because they create content for recreation and/or for business.
Personally, the outcome of this decision doesn’t affect me because I don’t use this app. Some students in my school, Eleanor Roosevelt High School, share my feelings.
For example, I interviewed student Muhammad Khan on what he thought about this controversy and he said, “If this ban does happen I do not mind because too many teens are addicted to it.”
I also interviewed Jonathan Maria about the TikTok ban and said, “I don’t care what happens cause data I don’t use TikTok.”
I have heard many of my friends express their thoughts on the subject and I found that they have mixed emotions about this, some say yes some say no. TikTok is a very popular platform. People enjoy it and utilize it, it has become part of entertainment. Others don’t care what happens to it as they probably never became involved and entertained by it. This is not the first time TikTok has faced an issue like this they have had many issues before from trying to get banned. It will be interesting to see what happens in court, will TikTok be bought by an American company to keep the people’s information within the US, or will it be banned making many Americans sad?
