The Los Angeles Dodgers are World Series Champions for the second time in 5 seasons! On Wednesday the dodgers were in the lead by three to one but lost to the New York Yankees in game four. The Dodgers were behind five to zero but made an amazing comeback with a seven to six victory.
Freddie Freeman was named a World Series MVP after homering in a record four straight games. The Yankees could have been the first team to force a game six after being behind by six in World Series history.
At the start, the Dodgers’ Jack Flaherty was off to a rough start. This is because he was solid in first game and got 1 1/3 innings Wednesday with four runs. Gerrit Cole threw four innings to open the game. A series of three major defensive miscues tied the game because the Dodgers scored five runs. The Yankees then took the lead back in the sixth inning but the Dodgers took it back in the seventh.
Another miscue happened when Austin Wells gave Shohei Ohtani a free base and a pair of sacrifice flies the supplied the deciding runs. After the Dodgers were down by five runs, they moved into the World series-winning position thanks to the Yankees. Blake Treinen threw two and 1/3 scoreless innings to push the lead into the ninth. Then Walker Buehler, the Dodgers likely Game seven starter, finished a game that finally made the Dodgers win the World Series.
The New York Yankees could have made history, but the Dodgers took it home. A freshman at ERHS named Amara Obiwanne stated, “I didn’t watch it but I was rooting for the Dodgers.”
Another freshman named Jessie Zhou added on stating, “I didn’t watch but my teacher wanted the Dodgers to win.”
Finally, A junior named Ethan Lee stated, “I was rooting for the Dodgers and I thought they weren’t going to win at first.”
