Thursday was our Roosevelt Junior Varsity football game against Norco Cougars. Both teams battled for the win, and both crowds were full of spirit. The cheerleaders were fantastic, cheering for our team, and getting our fans loud. Roosevelt started to move the ball but Norco stopped our offense, they had a solid defense. Roosevelt scored first, then the Cougars tied us and went for two points, leading 8-7 in the first quarter. In the 2nd quarter, the defense held the Cougars with the same lead and they moved the ball but couldn’t score.
It was halftime and I interviewed coach Tyree Shaw, I asked how we could win this game, and he said ¨Come together as a team and bring all of what we practiced this week just bring it together and put it on display here for the second half because in the first half, we came out not as a complete unit so once we come out the second half silicified then we’re gonna get this win.”
In the third quarter, while our defense was on the field, the Cougars fumbled on their 4th down, making the crowd loud and excited as we were going into the fourth quarter. We moved forward to the endzone with a good throw from our quarterback to the wide receiver, we were in the endzone trying to score with not that much time left on the clock, and with a fourth down our team got stopped by the defense. The Cougars secured the win with the score being 8-7.
At the end of the game, I interviewed the assistant coach, asking how we could move forward from this defeat, he said: ¨ I thought we played decent we just got to correct our mistakes and play better! it was a close game and it happens sometimes.”
