Country music has had a massive surge of popularity as of late. New stars like Zach Bryan and Morgan Wallen have been making waves, and even pop stars like Beyonce and Post Malone have jumped onto the recent country trend. But this year also marked the return of the “unambiguous King of Country Music,” George Strait, who released his 31st (yep, 31st) studio album “Cowboys and Dreamers” on September 6th. Strait has been making country jams since the 70s, and has the most #1 hits out of any musical artists ever! When Strait announced “Cowboys and Dreamers” on May 16, 2024, die-hard country fans, including me, couldn’t wait.
Simply put, Straits album feels purely genuine. Country has evolved greatly, especially in the past few years as even pop artists have started to put their own unique spins on the genre. Despite this, Strait continues with his classic signature style, and he does not disappoint. The 13 track album holds great upbeat songs like “Three Drinks Behind,” “MIA Down in MIA,” and “Honky Tonk Hall of Fame” which features Chris Stapleton. Its more mellow jams like “Cowboys and Dreamers” and “To the Moon” also hit home for many thanks to Strait’s strong and unwavering vocals and lyrics.”Honky Tonk Hall of Fame is my favorite,” said ERHS student athlete Max Neimeyer. “I really love the feature from Chris Stapleton. And ‘Cowboys and Dreamers’ has that classic country vibe which is cool.” That “classic country vibe” really is what makes this album such a great listen. “Overall it seems like George Strait is bringing a refreshing, nostalgic, and cheerful vibe that makes me feel like camping,” said ERHS student athlete Caleb Lee. This album undoubtedly strikes so many nostalgic cords for classic country enjoyers while also roping in younger ears with its catchy, warm-hearted tunes. I grew up listening to Strait my whole life, but I can honestly say that his style, vibe, and genuine lyrics are both undeniably special and unique. If you’re looking to jump on the country hype train, give “Cowboys and Dreamers” a listen. Trust me when I say the “King” doesn’t disappoint with this one.
