On October 4th 2024, Eleanor Roosevelt High School hosted a soccer Lawnch for the disabled kids at the school. The school named it “Lawnch” because they had the event on the lawn of the school and it was supposed to be a lunch on the lawn.
This soccer Lawnch had different booths, fun games, different soccer related activities and much more. One of the activities that they had during this event was being able to kick a soccer ball and try to make it in the goal. Another activity the event had was students could try to hit a softer ball with their head while they jumped for it. They also had a lot more activities on the lawn that the students could go and participate in.
The Lawnch also had music that they were playing during this event which brought up the mood.
This Lawnch got to represent how kids with disabilities, could do anything that anyone else can. Ghaleb Jaber, a freshman at Eleanor Roosevelt High School stated, “The event represented our diverse student body as well as how anybody can play sports regardless of their situation. The event was important for the school because it helped bring everyone together.”
This event truly did get to show how our school represents those with disabilities and how disabilities doesn’t make less of them.
Dylan Hernandez, a freshman from the high school stated, “Soccer Lawnch is for the severely handicapped kids, to get them more involved in sports and to raise awareness for them.”
This Lawnch was about more than just soccer. It represented something much bigger. It gave the students more encouragement and more reasons to believe that they can accomplish anything with or without a disability.
