Throughout Eleanor Roosevelt High, there are a multitude of clubs that cater to specific groups and niches for the campus. We Skin Care (WSC) may be the first at ERHS to dedicate itself to teaching people about skincare.
Many people don’t second guess the products that they use when doing their daily skincare routines. And with roughly 4,305 cosmetic brands as of 2022, there are plenty of options for people to choose from. The issue lies in not knowing the ingredients or how they can effect your specific skin type.
“The rise of skincare has really skyrocketed over the past few years, especially over quarantine,” Claire Nguyen said. “but it’s difficult to get accurate information about what products you put on your skin without going to a dermatologist.”
Nguyen is the president and founder of WSC, a completely new organization here on campus. She elaborated on the mission behind the club.
“WSC is a student led club that educates our peers on the science behind different skincare ingredients with the hopes of allowing for more educated decisions about the skincare you use,” shared Nguyen.
The club aims to do this by creating informational slides that will be posted to their Instagram account, as well as hosting meetings. The ultimate goal is to make information about the science behind skincare and skin of all types available to anybody who seeks it out. The club created positions on their officer board for research directors, who are responsible for conducting the research that the club shares.
“In the club, I mostly research for our meetings,” Becca Zhou says.
Zhou is one of two research directors on the officer board of the club. Zhou also shared what inspired her to join the club.
“I joined the club because I’m very interested in things related to skin and skin care in general,” Zhou said. “I hope through WSC, I can educate more on the ingredients we put on our faces.”
While informational and research based clubs might not be a new idea here at ERHS, a club with he capacity and the passion to research the complexities of skincare and it’s effects on one of the body’s largest organs is certainly authentic. Their goal of accurate and unbiased information regarding skincare and its effect on different skin types is one that comes from a place of passion for the club. The members truly care about educating people on issues that matter to them.
The club would also like to invite people to attend their next club meeting which is scheduled for October 22 in F209. You can also follow their Instagram @erhswsc. They also have a remind @erhswsc.
