“Monkey Man” is a very seemingly intriguing movie released on April 5. Similarly to John Wick, it’s a revenge action movie featuring famous actor Dev Patel, who plays “Monkey Man.” Dev Patel also starred in “Chapie” and the live-action “Avatar the Last Airbender.”
The movie summary states, “A young man ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he’s beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash. After years of suppressed rage, he discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.”
The movie is directed by Dev Patel himself and produced by Jordan Peele, who made “Us,” “Get Out,” and “Nope.” Jordan Peele also does funny skits with Michael Key called “Key and Peele,” highly recommended if you ever feel like laughing for hours on end.
When interviewed by another media outlet, Peele stated that, “Monkey Man as an action tops all other action movies…The way Dev acts in the sequences that were so well choreographed with so much character to the action that in the revenge movie genre it’ll be huge.”
Two fans of Jordan Peele, who attend ERHS, Adan Casillas and Mathew McDanold were interviewed about their thoughts.
“I’m excited since I love both John Wick and Jordan Peele’s directing so seeing them both mixed will be euphoric,” McDanold said.
“Action movies are a top genre for me and I hope to see that Monkey Man lives up to the hype,” Casillas said.
Hearing this from Jordan Peele who is a genius of a movie producer is a monumental compliment. This is coming from the guy who rewrote a script hundreds of times and almost quit the writing of “Get Out” because of the horror and depression that he had soaked into the making of the film. At first watch of the film, you can feel its sinister vibes and it is, indeed, a breathtaking and blood-curdling masterpiece of a film. No doubt, one of the best of our generation.
