Once upon a time, in a kingdom far far away lived a green ogre named Shrek and his sidekick Donkey. They embark on a life-changing journey saving the land from an evil villain. Then they rescued a feisty princess from her terrible fate. Eventually, the hero and the heroine fell passionately in love, a blooming romance. All’s well ends well, the two then lived happily ever after.
Come one, come all! The Eleanor Roosevelt High School Mustang Theatre will be bringing “Shrek” to life in town! Come join us on this astonishing journey! The musical will be opening on the 28th, 29th, and 30th of March all at 7 p.m. and at 2 p.m. on March 30th. The production will be based on the original Broadway production that was inspired by the iconic Dreamworks film. Tickets are up for grabs here, come swing by to watch this whimsical musical!
“Shrek: The Musical” initially premiered on August 14, 2008, in Seattle to a mostly positive reception. This led to the musical getting picked up for Broadway, with the production making its Broadway debut on December 14, 2008, only three months after its initial release. The musical has gone on to have multiple international tours and grossed over 491.8 million dollars at the box office. “Shrek: The Musical” has also been nominated for its fair share of awards and a pro shot of the musical became available in 2013.

The theatre also isn’t just limited to stage actors and can provide roles for students who may want to be involved but don’t necessarily want to be on stage.
Several members of the ERHS Mustang Theatre share their thoughts on the upcoming “Shrek” musical and their respective roles in the production.
Eli Hammond, a junior and techie for the ERHS Mustang Theatre exclaimed “‘Shrek: The Musical” has been coming along well so far despite the little amount of time we’ve had to prepare for it, it’s definitely going to be a great show.”
Hammond then expressed how he felt his experience with Theatre has been so far “Theatre has been really fun, there’s a lot that happens backstage which is really fun.”
Another junior and fellow techie, Jakob Venegas adds to Hammond’s statement stating “Theatre has been very fun and fulfilling. I really like doing my part and helping out in some way. What’s even better is that I don’t necessarily have to be on stage, but I still get to help out and be with my friends.”
The actor of the dragon, Ava Lantz, a senior at the ERHS Mustang theatre shared, “I’m really excited, this is the first role I’ve gotten that feels really close to me, my hope for this role is to come off very menacing but also fun.”
She continues, “I love theater, all throughout high school and ever since I was a baby. Everyone is all together and having a fun time!”
