This just in! It has been confirmed that Ryan Gosling will be bringing the Kenergy to the 2024 Oscars performing his hit single from “Barbie” titled “I’m Just Ken.”
Ever since Gosling started to receive nominations for his “Barbie” single, it has been up in the air for quite a while whether or not the “Barbie” actor would prove his singing skills are Kenough by performing live at the 2024 Oscars. In an interview with Variety in February, Gosling admitted that the Academy had not reached out to him asking him to perform at the 2024 Oscars. Gosling acknowledged that he wasn’t sure if performing at the 96th annual ceremony would be the best of ideas, acknowledging that it would be a big risk but reassuring fans that he’d be open to the idea if it was proposed to him.
At the 2024 Grammys, Mark Ronson, one of the songwriters behind Gosling’s famous single, confessed to Variety that he longed for Gosling to perform at the 2024 Oscars. Ronson went on to say that he simply would not replace Gosling’s spot if Gosling was not willing to perform, stating that they would simply just pass on the opportunity.
Gosling’s “Barbie” ballad first made its appearance on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in August ranking No. 87, just a few weeks after the film’s release. After seeing the success of his humorous song, Gosling released an EP titled “Ken the EP” which consists of three new versions of the Barbie song including an “In My Feelings Acoustic” and a “Merry Kristmas Barbie.”
Viewers can tune in to Gosling’s performance of “I’m Just Ken” at the 2024 Oscars which will air on ABC on March 10 at 4 p.m. (PT) with Jimmy Kimmel as the returning host.
Julie He, a junior at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, can’t wait to see what Gosling has in store at the 2024 Oscars.
“I feel like it’ll be a good performance and I’m looking forward to seeing it,” He said. “I think it’s a good song.”
Raquel Zeledon, another junior at ERHS, feels indifferent about Gosling’s performance.
“The movie was not about Ken at all and I kind of agree that he shouldn’t [perform],” Zeledon said. “I also don’t think it would be horrible if he does. I do not personally watch the Oscars so I do not really care about the performance.”
