Adequate sleep is essential for regulating body functions and metabolism, but now many people have to squeeze in sleep to fill the lack of time during the day because of their busy work and many social activities.
Some people like to stay up late and enjoy the happiness brought by staying up late, while some people stay up late for long periods of time due to work, study, etc., forming a biological clock. As a result, even if you really want to sleep, it will take a certain amount of time to fall asleep.
Staying up late is very harmful to the body. For example, staying up late can cause skin damage. The skin enters the maintenance state at 10-11 pm. If you stay up late for a long time, the human body’s endocrine and nervous systems will be imbalanced, resulting in dry skin, poor elasticity, dull skin, and acne and acne. If you stay up late for a long time, it will affect the movement of yin and yang in the human body and lead to various health problems. If you are in poor health and have poor blood circulation, dark circles will often appear around your eyes, and your complexion will also be bad.
Staying up late can also cause memory loss! The sympathetic nerves of people who stay up late remain excited at night, and they may suffer from lack of energy, dizziness, memory loss, inattention, and slow reaction during the day. Over time, problems such as neurasthenia and insomnia may occur.
Staying up late can also lead to obesity. Staying up late often can make people gain weight. The main reasons include staying up late and eating late-night snacks, most of which are unhealthy foods. There is little activity at night and the calories taken in cannot be burned. Loss of appetite will also occur the next morning, leading to nutritional imbalance. If things go on like this, your weight will soar, leading to obesity.
When we sleep, our bodies are not only resting, but also repairing and metabolizing. Research shows that good sleep not only improves physical performance but also reduces the risk of injury. Good sleep also allows our body to naturally burn excess fat, while lack of sleep can also reduce the effectiveness of exercise. Secondly, poor sleep can also affect appetite, especially increasing the desire for high-sugar and high-fat foods. Therefore, if you often stay up late and have an irregular schedule, you may unknowingly consume more calories and accumulate fat.
ERHS student Chaster Chen shared why some people might choose to stay up late.
“I feel like students like us are in school almost all day long, and only have some time to ourselves in the evening,” Chester Chen said. “So that’s why I stay up late, because only at night can I do what I want to do.”
Lisa Chen, a student at ERHS, said that staying up late was very bad.
“Staying up late made me feel very uncomfortable during class the next day,” Lisa Chen said. “I wanted to sleep very much during class. But sometimes there is no way, because there is a lot of homework, and I have to stay up late to finish it.”
Therefore, in order to avoid obesity, we need to adjust our work and rest time, go to bed early and get up early. Eat more fruits and vegetables and exercise more to keep our bodies healthier!
