Psychedelics have long been seen in a negative light due to the decades-long war on drugs. Recently though, studies have shown that psychedelics could have a positive effect on those who suffer from conditions such as chronic depression, PTSD, and anxiety. Senate Bill 58 was introduced to the California Senate on December 16, 2022. The bill was introduced by Senator Scott Weiner, and it seeks to decriminalize personal possession of psychedelics such as Psilocybin mushrooms, LSD, Etc. Although certain substances will be left off of the list such as peyote, due to its significance in Native American culture. Currently, the Bill is sitting on the Governor’s desk awaiting his signature. In the meantime, let’s see what a teacher on campus has to say about the bill.
