“Yes Day” Movie Review
In life, there is a lot of “yes” and “no.” Saying yes to opportunities for advancement, learning, growth, and excitement can lead to countless new experiences that will enrich your life. While saying no can help you out in certain situations, it can lead to negative effects as well.
“Yes Day” is a new original Netflix film released on March 12. The title of the film got my attention so I immediately watched it. It is based upon the children’s book of the same name by Amy Krouse Rosenthal.
The story revolves around a family of five. The mother, Jennifer Garner, as Allison Torres, the father, Edgar Ramirez as Carlos Torres, and their three kids; The oldest, Jennifer Ortega as Katie Torres, the middle child, Julian Lerner as Nando Torres, and the youngest, Everly Carganilla as Ellie Torres.
When Allison and Carlos first met, they were adventurous, having fun, and they were living their life. Let’s say they were always on the go and they said yes to literally everything.
When they had kids, that’s when they started saying “no” as a way to protect their children. In the scenes, you will see that the children were making a mess, taking too long on their gadgets, experimenting with dangerous stuff, and a whole lot more. All that the mother says to them is no.
One evening, Allison and Carlos were called to attend a parent-teacher conference at school regarding Nando’s and Ellie’s school work. Both of the children’s school work are about calling their mom a dictator and it showed the mother saying no and being strict.
When Allison and Carlos were talking about the issue at the school canteen, Mr. Deacon, a coach, and a father, overhears and shares with them that he maintains order in his house by giving his children a “Yes” Day from time to time. “Yes” Day is a day wherein the parents cannot say no to the requests of their children.
They both presented the idea to their children and that they have to earn this “Yes” Day by doing chores and not getting into trouble. The family agreed but the oldest, Katie, made a condition to her mother that if her mom makes it through “Yes” day without saying no, Katie will go to the Fleekfest with her mother. If she doesn’t make it, she will go with her friend, Layla.
The kids eventually earned the “Yes” day and they put together a list of five major activities for the day.
For me, this is when the fun starts. This is also when their bond became stronger. At the end of the day, unexpected things happened and each of them learned a lesson, especially Katie. Why? You might want to watch the movie to know the answer.
The film is not just about fun and family but it also teaches values to each and every one of us. Relationships, friendships, growing up, learning from your mistakes, respect, are some of the values that we can learn from the movie so it’s really worth watching.
Like Junior Roland Jocefmari Ocampo said, “Understanding is the key to good relationships.” He has seen the movie and he decided to share his opinion. “I really loved this movie. There were no dull moments because every scene has its own beauty. This movie made me laugh and it also touched my heart,” Ocampo stated.
Speaking of values, he mentioned that we should be “open for possibilities and changes” and that having fun should also “have limitations.”
Ocampo ends by saying, “I recommend this movie to families. This movie will surely tighten your bonds with each other. It will be worth your time!”
A friend of mine who hasn’t seen the movie shared her thoughts with me. “I haven’t watched the movie yet, but all I heard was good feedback. I will definitely watch this and witness its greatness,” Charlotte Diaz said. “I am anticipating to learn values that are dedicated to my family, most especially to my parents. Let us all be entertained and inspired by the lessons this movie will teach us.”
With that said, make sure you watch “Yes Day” on Netflix!
