Movies of 2021, I think?

2020 definitely wasn’t a good year to release movies and didn’t do justice to some good ones that got released. The few good ones I saw this past year were “Tenet,” “The Devil All the Time,” and “Soul.”

Luckily, I was able to see “Tenet” in theaters, the one week it was open. While I saw “The Devil All the Time” and “Soul” from the comfort of my own home.

Chell a student at ERHS stated, “hopefully more movies are being released on apps.” She continues to say, “it’s safer for those to stay home and not risking getting in contact with the virus.”

Although 2020 sucked for movie lovers, 2021 will hopefully make up for the loss. HBO partnered with Warner Brothers so people can enjoy movies from the comfort of their own home, their first release being “Wonder Women 1984.” As we head further into 2021, we’re starting to hear more about movies being released, a big one, “Godzilla vs Kong,” which is coming sooner than expected.

Godzilla VS Kong

While there wasn’t much of an expected release date, Legendary Picture confirmed that the biggest monster movie is set to release on March 26; with a trailer releasing Sunday, January 24.

There are of course even bigger movies coming later to HBO Max, like Zach Snyder’s four hour long ‘Justice League: The Snyder Cut’ in March.

Another big movie production that we didn’t see in 2020 was Marvel. Marvel usually dominates the box office but took a risk of not releasing any movies in 2020 when quarantine had struck to hopefully not lose money. In 2021 we should see a handful of movies from Marvel, the first being Black Widow which was set to release in May 2020, then pushed to November 2020, and now should be released in May 2021.

however, Screenrant, an online entertainment news website stated, “Black Widow is likely to be delayed again.” Marvel has tried to stay away from releasing their movies on Disney+ but Screenrant thinks, “it would be their last resort.” Marvel does have a handful of movies that are set to release this year, such as “Shang-Chi,” “The Eternals,” “Morbius,” Venom 2,” and a third Spider-man movie, but we will have to see.

A familiar face in Marvel, Tom Holland, is moving away from just being “Spider-Man: your neighborhood hero” and is starring in the movie “Cherry”, being released on February 26 in theaters and March 12 on Apple TV+. Holland’s new movie shows the journey of a young man, who meets the love of his life only to risk losing her through a series of bad decisions.

There are a whole handful more movies coming out this year that are notable mentions such as, “Mortal Kombat,” “Fast and Furious 9,” “Raya and The Last Dragon,” “A Quiet Place 2,” “Dune,” “Matrix 4,” and so many more. If 2021 movies are set in place, this will be a great year for movie lovers.
