Mexican President Says He Will Not Attend Meeting with Trump
January 26, 2017
Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto had second thoughts about going to a planned meeting to meet President Trump on Jan. 21st after Trump tweeted that the meeting should be canceled if Mexico won’t pay for a border wall. Nieto then responded with his decision about the meeting: “This morning we have informed the White House I will not attend the meeting planned for next Tuesday,” he tweeted. Nieto also added “Mexico reaffirms its willingness to work with the United States to reach agreements that benefit both nations.”
Trump said Wednesday that he would start building the wall and has vowed to make Mexico pay for it, but the border country is just not up for it and is constantly refusing to President Trump’s demands. Because of President Trump’s desire in making Mexico pay for the wall – even going far as to use force to do so – Mexico’s best-known opposition politician, leftist Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, tweeted, “In the face of Trump’s latest outburst, don’t go to the meeting, and submit an urgent complaint to the U.N. for human rights violations.” It is clear that the dispute over the wall will go on.
