“Hello everyone. Welcome back to another article on the Roosevelt Review about video games. Today I wanted to discuss my thoughts on Resident Evil 3 Remake, as well as analyze important information about what we’ve seen and read from the main stream media. So without further ado, lets being and go straight to the article.”

Resident Evil 3 is a remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis which was released on September 22, 1999 for the PlayStation 1 and was labeled as a survival horror video game developed by Capcom. We follow our main protagonist Jill Valentine fighting off the hordes of zombies in Raccoon City while attempting to escape with her friend Carlos Oliveira. The two work together to escape before a nuclear missile obliterates Raccoon City and defeat their greatest enemy Nemesis, a bio-weapon created by Umbrella assigned to terminate the remaining members of S.T.A.R.S. Just a reminder for everyone who forgot or is new to Resident Evil; Jill Valentine is the last S.T.A.R.S member in RE3. Carlos, on the other hand, is a mercenary hired by the Umbrella Biohazarded Countermeasure Service (U.B.C.S.).

In the beginning of the RE3 Remake trailer we’ve received in December 2019, we see a montage of cinematic clips from Resident Evil 2 Remake and a clock counting down in military time. A date appears in text saying “September 28 – Raccoon City.” In a first person point of view, we see a woman run away from a tall muscular man behind her. When I first saw this I honestly thought it was Mr.X from Resident Evil 2, but it was actually Nemesis chasing down Jill Valentine in her apartment complex. Jill barley escapes from Nemesis’s hunt down and later see Jill coming out the front door of her apartment doing her well known front barrel role from the original game. We also see Brad Vickers – which I have to say guys, looks pretty cool. Brad is a S.T.A.R.S helicopter pilot and a important protagonist in Resident Evil 3. In the original game Brad didn’t strike out as brave guy against the zombies as Jill did. Though we only see Brad in few clips talking to Jill about Nemesis and the zombies infecting the city. I’m sure we’ll see more of Brad in action. Some fans might not want scared weak Brad to change to a more assertive Brad for obvious reasons; but I’m positive fans from the original game would like to see Brad progress further in the Remake before he confronts his inevitable death with Nemesis.

After checking out Carlos Oliveira in the trailer, I have to say his redesign is outstanding. He looks a lot better than his original design. Remember back in the day when people called Carlos green Leon? His wavy grey hair along with his short grey beard make him look like an experienced mercenary. On top of all this, I was blown away after seeing Nicholai Ginovaef, Mikhail Victor, Tyrell Patrick, and Murphy Seeker. The quick peek of Nicholai’s evil smile gave fans goosebumps. Mikhail’s redesign is amazing as well as; his beard makes him appear like his since some real action over the years, given his age and all.

The two trailers we got in December and January showed a lot of cinematics of Resident Evil 3 Remake.  However, there wasn’t enough gameplay to analyze from the trailer. We only Jill firing off a shotgun against a horde of zombies and quick scene of Carlos shooting two zombies in what looks like a hospital. There’s no doubt we’ll play as Carlos in RE3 Remake. I just wished we got to see more of the gameplay.

Capcom made a announcement a while back saying that the monsters from Resident Evil 2 were cut out from the Remake because they appeared out of place in their new approach to the remake in which the developers wanted to create a more realistic game. In the original Resident Evil 2, giant spiders, cows, and a giant moth appear in the game, but were sadly cut due to the developers’ decision. It’s a high possibility that the monsters from RE3; Nemesis will not appear in the game. If anything, Capcom should try turning the monsters into quick time events just like they did with the alligator in RE2: Remake. I’ll take anything as long as it means get to see those monsters again. There is only one confirmed monster that will return in RE3 Remake and that is the Hunter.

We can’t forget about the big guy who haunts in our dreams. Nemesis. His redesign looks scary and absolutely amazing. His voice makes it all the more better. You hear him yell “STARS” and all you want to do is run for your life. His new outfit has brought some mixed feelings into  the Resident Evil community. A lot people wished Capcom had kept Nemesis’s old design with him wearing his black leather trench coat. Capcom also gave Nemesis a nose which didn’t set well with fans. I have mixed feelings about this myself, however I’m alright with Capcom’s final decision. I’m more interested to see some gameplay against Jill and Nemesis.

Jill Valentine’s and Carlos Oliveira’s 1999 outfits.

If you guys are wondering about Jill’s and Carlos’s 1999 outfits from the original game, have no fear because they’re coming back. You can get these outfits if you pre-order the Resident Evil 3 Remake before the release date, which is April 3, 2020. I have to address something that might upset some Resident Evil fans. Jill Valentine’s 1999 outfits will not include a skirt. Instead it will feature a skort, a bottom piece that supposed to appear as a skirt. I wish they changed Carlos’s hair for his 1999 outfit; he looks like 51 year old man. When I saw this picture my mind flashed back to Joel from the Last of Us.

Just like in Resident Evil 2 Remake, Capcom is sure to include the original models of Jill and Carlos from RE3: Nemesis. Of course they won’t look great, but they’ll be there for fans use while they roam around the streets of Raccoon City.

“It’s crazy that Resident Evil 3 Remake is coming out a year later after Resident Evil 2 Remake. I’ve already pre-ordered the game for PlayStation and I play on game sharing with my friend online,” said Jacob Roczey.

“Capcom is doing a good job improving their old games. I can’t wait to fight against the Hunters while using the assault rifle and shotgun in the game.”

Aiden Long

Are you excited to see Jill Valentine In Resident Evil 3 Remake and are you happy with her new redesign model?

“Yes, and I think her new design is pretty good. It’s like her old design but with polygons,” said Aiden Long.

Do you think Resident Evil Resistance will be fun to play on console, or do you think it will be a let down?

“I think it could be fun or a let down- it’s too early to say whether or not it will be good or bad.”

Are you planning on purchasing the collector’s edition for Re3 Remake?

No, because it too expansive and it’s out of my price budget.”
