Eleanor Roosevelt High School has put itself on the map for having some of the best sports teams in the state. One of them being our volleyball program. The girl’s team, in particular, is riding on the high energy from last season and is on the rise with a dynamic start for this season. With a 2-0 lead, they established their name on the court but unfortunately, their winning streak came to halt when they lost to Santiago and Norco. Although the team took a beating to their standing this season the team members’ morale is still as high as ever.

With a pep in her step, Sophomore team member Kaylee Torres is optimistic about the team’s performance this season. When commenting on the team’s performance so far she said, “I feel like in the end, we are growing as a team.” As a second-year member she had a lot of thoughts on ways to improve for the upcoming games. Using the team’s past performances as reference for improvements she stated that ” We definitely learned a lot from last year… I feel like this year we are going to do a lot better”

Two years her senior, Vanessa Gamez,  has a confident spirit. Her experience gives her valuable insight into the past couple games and said, “I hope we can all come together and work on our communication and work on our citing out for a point.” Gamez pointed out the team bond as one of the most important factors in their performance. With communication being a product of the team’s relationship with each other Gamez believes that maintaining high morale is key to keeping their synergy high. She commented, “The team is honestly my second family. We’re all there for each other whether its volleyball related or not. It honestly is more than just volleyball for me.”

The Lady Mustangs are not backing down yet. Their high energy and confidence are something to watch for this season and it’s pretty clear to see that it will carry them through the rest of the year. As fellow Mustangs, wish good luck to the girls and remember to support them by attending their games!
