From costumes to candy decorations, 2016 Halloween has demonstrated a major splurge in American spending. Americans have reached a new record of $8.4 billion dollars this Halloween! Which is a $1.5 billion increase from last years spending, according to the National Retail Federation’s annual survey. According to the survey, consumers planned to spend $3.1 billion on costumes, $2.5 billion on candy, $2.4 billion on decorations and $390 million on greeting cards.

In preparation for Halloween, social media has become a huge influence for costumes, specifically Pinterest has become a huge impact. According to the previous survey 71% handed out candy, 47% planned to hand out candy, and 16% planned to dress their animals in costumes.
