Health Care Act Revoked?
March 29, 2019
On March 26th, President Trump has announced that they may throw out the Affordable Healthcare Act. Healthcare has been a vital policy in our lives that take care of our community. Trump may not throw out the law for healthcare but he is thinking of taking actions to revoke healthcare for tens of millions of people in America via courts, according to MSNBC.com.
But the Republicans disagree on Trump’s decision. According to the Washington Post, they feel that they “will be blamed for more than 20 million people losing their health insurance — and they fear that crafting an alternative would prove unwieldy in a deeply divided Congress”. So far, the House is controlled by the Democrats and the Republicans don’t have any seats except in the House of Senates. However, Republicans fear that they will lose more seats to the Democrats and that will throw off the balance of rational decision-making.
Trump’s goal is to completely throw out the Affordable Care Act in which was reinforced by our previous President Obama and replace it with a law that allows young adults to stay on their parents’ health-care plans. This could help people in some way but according to The Balance, it is not so.
He wants to reform the rebates drug companies pay to pharmacy benefit managers. They negotiate prices between drug manufacturers, pharmacies, and health insurance companies. The rebates create incentives for PBMs to suggest higher-cost drugs. PBMs are also allowed to charge insurers more than they’re charging pharmacies. As a result, everyone pays different prices for drugs. -excerpt from The Balance article
Trump having this business mindset as the President of the White House is causing concern for those who are already struggling financially and not only that, it’s not a guarantee that the prices you get will be cheap. It’s a gamble and not everyone is ready for the change.
