Girls Basketball and Water Polo in State
March 1, 2019
As we know, our ERHS Lady Mustangs water polo team and basketball team both made it to CIF Southern Section playoffs. Lady Mustang Water Polo won CIF in a victory over Valley View and for the first time in girls water polo history, the advanced to State. Our girls basketball team lost in the fourth round of CIF Southern Section to Rolling Hills Prep, but they would still advance to CIF State.
Our lady Mustangs water polo team lost their first game in State to Coronado High School 15-4. Although our Mustangs did not win a State Championship, they still made history and won a CIF title. I asked Senior Captain Casey Malone how the road to making history prepared her for state, and how it feels to win a CIF title and she said, “It feels great to be CIF champions. It was something that we were working on all season and to actually win was amazing. It still doesn’t feel real. Even though we didn’t win State it’s awesome to be apart of making school history. It will be something that’s going to be remembered forever because we were the first girls water polo team to go to State and to win CIF”
As we enter March, the Lady Mustangs basketball team is heading into their third round of state, Saturday March 2nd, against Rolling Hills Prep at LA Harbor College. The last time our Mustangs faced Rolling Hills Prep, they lost in the fourth round of CIF 45-47. This game already has lots of anticipation therefore I asked Junior Rachel Nelson how the season has prepared the team for state and her expectations for Saturday and she said, “Playing great teams like King and Centennial in our district helped us by giving us higher intensity and making us more determined to make it far. We will be heading to round three of state and we expect to play hard and beat Rolling Hills Prep since they beat us last time by two points! We are more hungry and we want to serve to them!”
Mustangs go support Girls Basketball this Saturday against Rolling Hills Prep at LA Harbor College at 6:00pm as they continue to make ERHS proud. Congrats to our Lady Mustangs sports teams for making history this season!
