Listed is some information about the class.

Recently, articulation has started for our Mustangs so they can choose their new classes. If you have a free class period and don’t know what to fill it with, you should consider journalism!

Here in journalism, we collaborate every week to write the articles that make up The Roosevelt Review. It’s a very  student driven class. You are given a lot of independence when it comes to what you want to write, as long as you adhere to the guidelines.

You don’t have to be a good writer to join journalism! Writing for the newspaper is a completely different style of writing, with different guidelines and rules. The writing adheres to AP style, which is quite different from writing your normal MLA format essays. Article writing is usually more succinct than it is in a Language Arts class. In fact, journalists in our class are not just limited to article writing.  Since The Roosevelt Review is an online publication, different media types can be published, including photo essays, podcasts, and videos.

The application process has two parts: an application and a teacher recommendation.

We are looking to expand past just article writing, so feel free to apply if you are interested in multimedia publishing. Our digital platform is expanding every week-our  website views average about 500 or more per week, and some hit articles get hundreds of views alone! These numbers are bound to increase next year as we expand our platform.

Michelle Contreras is a potential journalist for next year, and shared her reasons for applying. “I’ve always been kind of interested in writing,” she says, and  wants “to get experience” with it by writing for the newspaper.

The  environment of the classroom is very collaborative, and that attracted Contreras. She also wants to be able to “put stuff out there” by publishing her original content online, which establishes an online portfolio. Having such an online portfolio also happens to look great on resumes.

If you’re interested in applying, talk to your counselor or come pick up an application from E103.
