Lin-Manuel Miranda is an American composer, lyricist, rapper, playwright and actor known for creating and staring in Broadway Musicals “In the Heights” and “Hamilton.” 

Miranda was born January 16, 1980 in Manhattan, New York City, New York.

Miranda began writing plays and songs in middle school for a three song musical for a project.

Miranda has always had a passion for both the theater and film; ” When I was fifteen years old with all my friends…I was fifteen years old; its a terrible movie. I wrote 50 percent of it because I wanted to kiss a girl, and I wrote a kissing scene for it.”

Since then Miranda has written and been apart of four Broadway musicals; “In the Heights”(2005), “Bring it on: the musical(2011), “21 chump street(2014) and “Hamilton(2016).

Currently, Miranda is one of the most sought-after men in Hollywood. With multiple projects in the works from, his role as Jack in 2018 film “Mary Poppins Returns” to a biding to make musical Hamilton into a film, along with the in the works production of a film version of “In the Heights“. 

Miranda has a wide range in demographic popularity from teenagers to the average age of theater goers, around forty years old.

Miranda began writing “Hamilton” after starting the 2004 biography “Alexander Hamilton” by author Ron Chernow.

Bringing the project to completion took Miranda six years, with fact checks after the production and completion of each song.

Miranda used his Puerto Rican roots and strong hip hop style to attract younger audience making “Hamilton” an instant hit when first hitting the stage in 2016.

Junior, Erika Joshua had this to say; ” I like his [Miranda] personality and how passionate his about his work. My favorite works by him is by far “Hamilton” the musical, I can’t pick a favorite song from the soundtrack. I honestly listen to it everyday and never get tired of it.”

For his work in the Theater and on screen, Miranda is the proud holder of an Emmy, three Tony’s, two Laurence Olivier awards, four Drama Desk awards, one Drama League award, a Lucille Lortel award, two Outer Critics Circle awards, two Obie awards, five Broadway.com Audience Choice awards, three Grammy awards, a Pulitzer price and  sixteen other awards.

Lin-Manuel Miranda is one award away (an Oscar) from joining the twelve person EGOT club. Those who are apart of this group who have swept up an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.

While Miranda has not yet joined this exclusive club, he continues to do what he loves no matter the outcome of an award show.

If Miranda has proven one thing to the world it is that he is here to stay and we can expect great things from him in the future, both of the big screen and on the stage.
