Cross Country Varsity Boys

Cher Wang, Writer

Hey Mustangs!

This week we are covering for our Eleanor Roosevelt’s boys X-country. Last week, we covered girls cross country so we decided to cover the boys to cover all the bases.

When I walked into B112 after school, where both the boys and girls X-country meet, many of them looked determined to practice. They were very energetic and I had just emailed Mr. Cummings about interviewing the boys X-country and was approved. I had spotted Aaron Lieberman, a senior who had been in X-country for about four years now and interviewed him.

“We’ve been doing okay this season. We’re training our last person to become part of the team. Our state meet is November 17 and our league finals is on October 30 so we’re working very hard to reach our goal to get a good spot this season,” Lieberman says.

Well, that’s the spirit! Seeking to improve every year just like our Eleanor Roosevelt motto (Best at getting better), we hope to see our boys X-country rise in ranks this season!  Go Mustangs!

Let’s see what Mr. Cummings, who has coached here for four years and started officially being a coach for seven years, feels about this season.

“Last year, we had one of the best boys X-country season that anybody could ever ask for. We finished second in state, close to be state champions, Division One for California. We have a pretty good team if everyone stays healthy. We should make it back to the state meet, we’re not going to qualify for nationals this year because our team does not have enough depth. We have pretty stand out runners and have to make sure that our 3rd, 4th and 5th runners are staying healthy,” he says, “I expect our team to run their best on November 17 which is the CIF finals. I expect the guys to make it to the state meet again for the fourth year consecutively. We’re ranked 7th-13th in the state so it’s close.”

So our X-country team will be shooting to improve from last year so Mr. Cummings gave some good advice for the X-country team to “focus on the small things” and “be healthy”.
