ERHS Girls X-Country Update
October 5, 2018
Our school has a lot of team sports; from football, basketball, volleyball, waterpolo, tennis, softball, and wrestling, it’s almost impossible to provide a sufficient amount of coverage for each individual sport. However, there is one sport that is unintentionally overlooked and that would be Girls Cross Country! Despite lack of recent coverage for the girls cross country team, that doesn’t defeat the fact that these girls put 110% into their sport and are incredibly hardworking and talented!
Their commitment and dedication is inspiring seeing as though they arrive early to school every Mondays and Thursday at 7:30 am, and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 5:30 am for warm ups and training.
As for sports statistics, our varsity girls are currently second place in their league! One of the runners on the team, Natalia Ibarra, states that “I think the girls team will do really well this season. This season we have the things we need to make it to state because there are a lot of girls on the team with so much potential and good work ethic. Overall I have really good feeling that this season is going to put the girls cross country team on the map.”
With that said, it’s safe to say that our team will be doing phenomenal and that they’ll be putting their best efforts into this season. As for herself, Natalia states, “ Personally speaking, I think this season hasn’t been going as well as I anticipated but it isn’t over yet, so there is still some room for me to improve and grow before the end of the season.”
Speaking for the team itself however, she states, “Our team as a whole really has put in a lot of work. Although an important thing every good team has is small time gap between their runners finishes. This is something our coach tells us is critical to achieving our goals this season so that is something we could work on.”
With that said, the team’s confidence seems to be at an all time high. Their hard work this season will definitely pay off, and hopefully they’ll go to state, and bring home gold! Go Mustangs!
