Self Love
September 28, 2018
Today’s world revolves around social media and the online world, and inevitably out of habit, we begin to compare ourselves to people who only exist in our lives on our phone screen.
Be it a famous YouTuber or an esteemed Instagram model, we begin to perceive ourselves as “inadequate” or “not cool enough”.
But the world needs a little more self love.
“You need to give yourself love before you give it someone else,” Sophomore Anahi Armendariz comments.
Self love is a growing theme in topics mainly targeted towards the younger generation, as teen suicide rates continue to climb.
Author, Shannon L. Alder states that “Confidence is knowing who you are and not changing it a bit because someone’s version of reality is not your version of reality.”
Confidence in yourself is a great way to start to improve the love you have for yourself.
Practicing self care is one way to feel more confident. Eating healthy, getting enough sleep and exercising are all ways to make yourself feel better, more energized, and ready to take on the world.
Another important step in feeling confident is to remember everyone is simply human. While some people have more money or more instagram followers, the person behind the post is just that a person.
You never know what is going on in someone’s personal life so comparing yourself to someone else’s image isn’t healthy.
Being human is having doubts and fears, but it’s also important to remember to love you for who you are, and not anyone else. Just think, if everyone believed in themselves a little bit more, the world might just be a little brighter than it was before.
