Girls Volleyball- ERHS vs. Norco
September 21, 2018
The ERHS Volleyball teams played Norco this week and it’s always great to see any of our Mustang sports team go against any other school.
The Freshman and JV teams were up first, both games exciting, and getting more intense as time went on. The freshmen team won the first set 25-22, with Norco behind by points but catching up, not in time though. Unfortunately the JV team lost their first set 26-28.
The second set was more intense as it was the winning shot for the freshmen and JV’s chance to catch and beat Norco. Each team put up a good fight, with the Freshmen winning their match 25-9 and the JV team was close, but lost the match 25-22.
Chance Gallardo, the manager of the team’s had this to say about the JV team,“The JV was well fought between Roosevelt and Norco, unfortunately Norco took the win. Roosevelt girls did try their hardest but they didn’t give up which is most the important part for them during the game.”
Daveleae Mandap, Captain of the JV team says, “We did alright, not our best, we could’ve used more energy, hustle out there.” As a member of the team during the game she added, “I could’ve improved, I didn’t give one hundred percent.”
The varsity game was overall the most intense out of the three games and it was great being able to see both teams give it their all for their school. Our team winning their first set 25-22. Another set going in, the Norco team came out on top, winning the second set, 25-14. Trading off with another winning set, 25-13, then to the 4th set losing 25-22. The 5th set was the most intense out of the whole game, for the fact that whichever team won, wins the overall game. Both teams earning points until the ending score, 16-14, Norco winning the set, and the game.
“The Varsity game was a intense and well fought game between the two teams but Norco did take it in the end by taking 3 sets. The Roosevelt girls did try their best but giving up at sometimes. The Norco girls didn’t take the game by working that hard but the Roosevelt girls gave it to them by giving up,” Manager Gallardo said.
Kyra Myers, a player on the Varsity team said, “I think we played well, we had high energy and communicated to each other we just had moments where we lost focus and got in our heads a little bit. I felt we could’ve done better especially towards the end of the fifth game we kind of just gave up when we only needed to side out one point.”
Norco was beatable, like any other team. The Varsity girls gave it their best shot. They did lose focus towards the end, but put up a good fight.
