Road work ahead, huh, yeah, I sure hope it does!

Road work ahead? Gee, I sure hope it does!

Starting last week, Archibald has had the process of repaving begun. Construction has been fairly non-stop, starting late in the morning but keeping up until nearly dusk. The road was first heavily torn up, leaving few lanes to go about business. This led to high traffic around the Archibald/Schliesman intersection until Wednesday, when the road paused work and most of the work moved down towards Norco.

Currently, the northwest and the south side have been entirely repaved, but the northeast lanes have not yet been finished, just as the center is currently untouched.

Many citizens of the city are disgruntled by the annoyance, as the weeks-long construction have created a bottleneck of traffic that remains a thorn in the side for many.

“I find it generally a minor inconvenience overall, but it is irritating to go over a torn-up road on a bike,” says Sophomore Kyle Browne. “I think resources could be better used to make sure that the bridge (to Norco) is better taken care of in general. I have noticed the sidewalk there is very poorly taken care of.”

Other individuals find the smell of tar permeating the road offensive, especially those living nearby. Construction is currently continuing down the road, with no sign of stopping so far. There is a minor consolation in the fact that there will be no potholes, but more solace can be taken in the fact that the work will likely be done in the next few weeks and the northern roads are fully operational.
