With the recent controversy regarding the Confederate Flag surfacing in the news within the last year, citizens of the US have had the opportunity to formulate  their personal opinions regarding this piece of history. However, while some may be highly educated on the topic of this concept, very  few are intently knowledgeable regarding the legitimate history and representation behind the flag, aside from flaring news reports.

What Does The Confederate Flag Represent?

If we’ve all done our history, this question would be easy to answer. However, for those who are unaware as to  what these colors and stars represent, continue down below for a quick history recap.

  For starters, the flag that we’ve seen on TV, is not the official or national Confederate flag of the Confederate States of America, (CSA for short). It is actually a Confederate Navy flag that was being used during the time of the Civil War. This flag, also known as a Jack Flag, was used in 1863 when Confederate troops claimed the state of Virginia as one of their new states. Virginia was home to a Union naval port until the Confederacy launched an attack to claim Union territory. Also, the flag that looks like square, is actually a Confederate Battle Flag that was used in the attack on North Virginia by Confederate General Robert E. Lee. When questioned why the Confederate Battle and Jack Flag are so popular in today’s generation, historians say  it’s  because Southerners used them as a rebellion flag; indicating that the flag was a protesting tool; a concept that undeniably intrigues citizens  of this country.

The national flag of the CSA has design like the Thirteen Star American Flag used during the American Revolution. However, instead of having thirteen stripes, seven red and six white, the Confederate flag has only three stripes in total; with two red and one white stripe in the middle.

  Now that we’ve reviewed the history concerning the Confederate Flag, let’s discuss what the stars, colors and stripes represent.  To break it down, the color red dominating the Confederate Flag is representative of  the blood of Jesus Christ;  the color blue representing Southern Pride, as well as law and order, while the color white is representative of  purity for the white race.
