A young hero in being recognized in Berlin after saving a old man from being stuck in a ditch without being heard for several dark hours.

“Honestly, its very humbling and I cant stop blushing because it really was a team effort.” said Erika Lanza

Late one night she was walking to her car when she hears screams from the elderly man that had fallen into a ditch.

“I was walking to my car and I heard a man’s voice and at first it sounded like he said ‘hello’ and I immediately stopped in my tracks because I was really scared because it was my worst fear to hear a man’s voice around me. I couldn’t see him and then I heard him saying though ‘help me, help me” She and her friends then called 911 and rescued the man.

The 55 year old man ha been stuck in the ditch for more than two hours. He has jut moved into the neighborhood and decided to go explore it. Not realizing he was walking into a trap, he fell down a found himself in poison ivy and bramble in the cold dark screaming for help. Thankfully having Erika across the street.

A 19 year old girl, Sarina Espinoza, expressed what she would have done in that situation. ” If I heard a guys voice I would’ve had the same feeling of fear, but after hearing help me I would’ve done the same and called the cops but definitely in panic . I do consider her a hero, after all if it wasn’t for her he wouldn’t have been found any sooner or who knows how much longer.”

Its been a crazy week for Erika just graduating from college of Monday. She expresses how greatful she was there and able to help because being a special work major, helping people in what she wants to do “not only in my school or job, but out in the community.”
