John Kraskinski, know for his role as Jim Halpert on NBC’s The Office, has written and directed the blockbuster film, “A Quiet Place.”

The Film is set in a world where any noise attracts the monsters that roam the earth. Survivors live in hiding and silence trying to save themselves and their families lives.

The film focuses on The Abbott family consisting of  John Kraskinski as husband Lee, wife Evelyn (Emily Blunt), sons Marcus (John Jupe) and Beau (Cade Woodward), and daughter Regan (Millicent Simmonds.) Since the families goal is to eliminate as much sound as possible they speak only through sign language.

The movie begins with a scene of the family inside an abandoned convience store searching for medication for Marcus. The movie implies that this is day 89 from the post-apocalyptic world.  Young Beau finds a toy rocket and shows it to his father, Lee gets wide eyed since he knows if the toy makes any noise it could be the end for them. He carefully takes the batteries out of the toy and signs, “Too loud,” to the child. The family starts to pack up and head back to home when older sister Regan secretly gives the toy and batteries back to her brother. On their walk back home Beau pushes a button the rocket which makes a noise echoing through the quiet town. Before Lee can get to the boy the monster comes from out of no where taking Beau with him.

The movie continues over a year later at the families home. Viewers get to see how the family lives their everyday lives without making a sound. Lee has done as much preparation as possible in keeping his family safe. He has cameras surrounding the house and many different drills organized in case the monsters come near the house. He also spends most of his time trying to contact other survivors over the radio and trying to figure out the monster’s weakness.

‭It’s clear since Beau’s death the relationship between Lee and Regan has been severely damaged. Lee tries to rebuild connections with her by putting most of his time and energy into creating new hearing aids for her but Regan as given up on ever being able to hear.

Wife and mother Evelyn is pregnant throughout most of the film. Problems are inevitably to arise when the baby is born. Lee has an oxygen tank and mask along with a sound prof box to put the new born child in.

The film follows the unfolding of Evelyn’s child birth, the family adjusting to a new way of life, and the unexpected discovery of the monsters’ weakness.
