A Texas elementary school art teacher, Stacy Bailey has been placed on paid administrative leave for expressing her sexuality after some parent complaints. One of the complaints belonged to an unidentified parent who voiced their concerns over an email; they were not okay with their child being exposed to Bailey’s sexual orientation and believed she should be removed from the school district.

Bailey simply requested that the Texas school district modify policy and language regarding the LGBTQ as well as during a slideshow of her life, she included a picture of her wife. This has caused controversy as several other female teachers are allowed to show pictures of their husbands but for some reason Bailey can not show her spouse.

After the incident Bailey was placed on paid leave “without reason” and she was told by the district to not speak of it or have contact with, students, parents, or other staff members.

Senior Benjamin Olivo believes “It sends a bad message to the kids and maybe they’ll believe that they also can’t express themselves”. He also says “we should promote people to be okay with expressing themselves and not feel that they have to hide or be punished for it.”
