This past week, “Sex and the City” star Cynthia Nixon announced she will be running in the Democratic party for New York Governor. She announced her candidacy on her Instagram, Twitter and other social media platforms. She now has a website that has more information on her candidacy and what her goals will be as a future governor.  Nixon has been known to be speak out on political ideologies and the division that is currently in America. She recently spoke in Albany about more equitable education funding and becoming the first women as governor in New York.

Cynthia Nixon is most well known for her role of Miranda in HBO’s, “Sex and the City.” Previous co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kristin Davis have shared their support for Nixon on social media. Since the 2016 election many have criticized non-experienced politicians choice to run for offices. This brings into question the wave of celebrities talking of running for political roles: are they capable to handle these political roles?

Many have criticized this shift in America, stating these inefficiencies are the farthest things what America needs now. Senior Gisselle Guerrero shares her perspective on the amount of celebrities planning on running for office: “Many of these celebrities don’t have much political experience to be a political figure. For Cynthia Nixon I think if during the process for running if she seems prepared and respectful then I think she does deserve to run.”
