Audreyville- Part 2

Audreyville- Part 2

Jacob Bryant

We are in the driveway; no one is saying anything, we are just in awe of how massive this property is.  Our old house was big, this place is huge. I could turn the whole property into a football field and still have plenty of room leftover. When I stepped out of the car, I looked into the window and saw what looked like the silhouette of a woman on the front porch. I dropped my bag in terror and I don’t mind saying that I screamed like my little sister and ran back to the car.

“What is wrong with you?” Dad asked

“There is someone…” I stopped in my tracks.

Right when I was about to tell my dad what I saw, the shadow figure disappeared. I grabbed my bag and went in the house. I thought the outside of the house looked good, the inside was awesome.  I was looking around upstairs for my bedroom, keep in mind it is summer time and we are in the rural South,  and when I walked into this room it was ice cold. When I passed the threshold of the door I felt like I was being watched, I don’t know why but I was drawn to the closet and I opened the door. The feeling of sadness and terror that washed over me dropped me to my knees.  Whatever was in that room I wanted no part of it.

“I want this room!!!” Leila came shouting up the stairs.

“Good you can have it.” I said back to her.

I eventually found a room towards the end of the hall, it was pretty big and had it’s own bathroom, so I claimed that room. My phone was pretty much dead so I plugged it up and I went downstairs. I was upset at myself for not eating earlier when I had the chance, good thing no one else ate either so Dad ordered a pizza and said we where going to do actual grocery shopping tomorrow when the fridge and all of the furniture arrived.  I went back upstairs to my room to find the charger that I plugged in to be out of the wall socket. I marched into my sisters room.

“Why did you unplug my charger?” I asked in an annoyed tone.

“I didn’t touch your charger,” she said.

I didn’t have time to argue with her so I just left her room. I text my friends to let them know that I made it and to see if they wanted to video call later. They said yes so I went down stairs to eat dinner, I showered and went in my room. It was only 8:30 so I figured I’d only talk to them for an hour and then go to sleep.

“It’s gonna be weird not having you on the team,” my friend, Josh, said.

“Texas, bro what is in Texas?” my other friend, Isiah, said.

“My Dad’s job apparently,” I said back to him.

We where on the phone for a long time, just talking about random stuff, I told them about what the truck driver said about our house and they thought the guy was crazy.

“Dude he was probably racist or he wants the house,”  Isiah said.

“That’s a really big conclusion to jump too,” I said back.

The way I was set up in my room, I was right by the window and I had my phone set up on the windowsill.  My friends had a clear sight of my opened room door.

“Yo, I think that your mom is standing in the door way,” Josh said.

I turned around- no one was there. I have been friends with these guys since kindergarten they were just using the story I told them earlier to scare me.

“Josh you play too much bro, you know my mom isn’t behind me,” I said back to him.

Isiah joined Josh in insisting that he sees someone behind me.

“Bro there is actually some one behind you,” he said in a concerned yet confused tone.

Like I said, I have known these guys since kindergarten and I have rarely seen them be this serious. Isiah took a screenshot of the call, my text notification went off and when I opened the chat, I went numb with fear. There was a shadow of a woman standing right behind me. Right when I saw the picture, the call started messing up and it went out. I quickly left my room, went to my parents room and found the both of them asleep. I went to Leila’s room, she was asleep. I darted back in my room, locked the door and turned all of the lights on. I was sitting in the corner of my room looking at the door for a solid 20 minutes.

I eventually started to get tired and set up the sleeping bag I had in my backpack.  I turned  a TV show on my phone and tried to get some sleep. I started to doze off and then I smelled a familiar scent. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but I knew that I have smelled it before. Not too long after, I heard what sounded like a woman crying. The porch light was flickering on and off, when it flickered on I saw a woman looking up at a tree and crying. When the light flickered off  the crying stopped. When it flickered back on the woman was looking directly at me.

Her eyes all black and staring a hole right through me. The light flickered off, then back on and the woman was gone. I ran to my door to go tell my parents, but I was stopped dead in my tracks when I heard footsteps coming in the house. My heart was beating a mile a minute. I tried to leave my room again, but was stopped when I heard the footsteps coming up the stairs.
