Final Fantasy 13 is a role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.  The game was first released in Japan on December 17, 2009 and was later released worldwide on March 9, 2010 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.  Square Enix had sold over 1.7 million copies in Japan in 2009. In 2017, Square Enix announced that they sold over 7 million copies of Final Fantasy 13. The game received a four star rating from the gaming community and is continuing to sell more and more copies on the old generation consoles. Henceforth, Final Fantasy 13 has also made a platform on PC with the help of STEAM. However, most gamers’ are playing on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One; two different generation consoles.  Why is this important? It’s because Square Enix hasn’t remastered Final Fantasy 13 for either of these consoles.

Final Fantasy 13 is almost 10 years old from when it was released in 2009. Final Fantasy X was released in 2001 and Final Fantasy X-2 was released in 2003; both played on the PlayStation 2. This is important to know, because Square Enix took the liberty of remastering the two games on the PlayStation 3; and then later on the PlayStation 4. Not to mention that Square Enix also made Final Fantasy 7 playable on the PlayStation 4. The original Final Fantasy 7 video game, from 1997, released on the PlayStation 1.

If Square Enix can remastered these three games and continue their work on remaking Final Fantasy 7 for the PlayStation 4. Then, why can’t Square Enix remaster Final Fantasy 13? They have the equipment, they have the resources, they have all time in the world. So … what is it?

Reasons For Remastering Final Fantasy 13

There are many reasons why the Final Fantasy community wants Final Fantasy 13 remastered. They want experience Final Fantasy 13 in 4k high quality. They want new gamers to play Final Fantasy 13 so they can get into playing the other Final Fantasy games.  The community also wants a battle system, or if not that, than less bugs and glitches that were in the original game. So many of us who have played Final Fantasy 13 want to see this in the ray of light. This game desires a proper title; one that will be remembered in our video game library.

Jocelyn K. Hernandez says; “Well it will be able to provide a new experience for those who don’t have the original console that Final Fantasy 13 was made for; and many people may not be willing to pay for that original console just to play one game.”

What Are The Challenges With Remastering Final Fantasy 13?

When Final Fantasy 13 was first released, there was a lot of errors and bugs in the game that made impossible to play. However, Square Enix later installed an update which removed most of the problems gamers were experiencing. Afterwards, the community later noticed that the battle system of Final Fantasy 13 “too linear“. In other words, the community thought that the new battle system did not make Final Fantasy 13 like the other Final Fantasy video games. This shouldn’t be a big idea for Square Enix; However, if Square Enix is to remaster Final Fantasy 13, they will need to find a solution to this conundrum. They would have to rewrite the codes that were installed the original game; and by doing it would take couple years for the game to be release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Having some changes in the game’s battle system wouldn’t be all that bad if you think about. In fact, having the option of switching characters  during battle would convince people to play Final Fantasy 13. There are many changes that will need to be made in order for Final Fantasy 13 to be remastered. We can only hope that Square Enix listens to our demands.

Should Final Fantasy 13-2 and Final Fantasy Lightning Returns Be A DLC?

Final Fantasy 13-2 and Lightning Returns are two sequels that take place after the events of Final Fantasy 13. Many fans were disappointed with these two games, because of how ridiculous they looked. The story line was not interesting, the battle system was considered boring and not fun. Final Fantasy 13-2 and Lightning Returns should become DLC games for Final Fantasy 13; with improved graphics, a better story line, and a more realistic battle system. If Square Enix achieves this goal this would encourage the gaming community to play Final Fantasy 13-2 and Lightning Returns.
