People gather during a vigil for the victims of a shooting in Thousand Oaks, California

Yet again another tragedy has made a mark in history, due to a fatal mass shooting. A night out for several people turned into a nightmare after a gunman killed 12 people and injured several others. The event took place in Thousand Oaks California. The gunman is believed to be Ian D Long: a 28 year old marine corps veteran who served in Afghanistan.

Reports state that long suffered from depression and troubles of his own influenced him to commit this heinous crime. To create a form of confusion, Mr. Long set off smoke bombs and made his way in shooting a security guard in the process.

Many of those involved in this deadly shooting were survivors of the Route 66 shooting in Las Vegas last year. A mother of one of the victims states, “He made it through Las Vegas, he came home. And he didnt come home last night, and the two words I want to write are: Gun control. Right now- so that no one else goes through this.” Susan Orfanos spoke.

Some of these victims were able to escape the building before the gunman captured them inside. “I remember looking back at one point to make sure he wasn’t behind me”, states a 19 year old college student Sarah Deson.

This event has caused a huge amount of distress to those involved and concern to many around the globe.
