PRESS ENTERPRISE

 

Eleanor Roosevelt art students will be participating in the Press Enterprise Art Show this year. It will be the 55th annual Press Enterprise Show and whoever wants to view the artwork the exhibit will be open at Riverside Art Museum between April 22 to May 19 2017.

ELIGIBILITY

Students enrolled in Riverside County high schools grades 9 through 12 (public or private) during the 2016-2017 school year

Submissions must be completed during the current school year under the supervision of an art teacher.

All artwork needs to be original and not made by copyrighted images.

It is the instructor’s responsibility for verifying that each submission is original artwork.

Only one piece of art per student will be accepted.

Work must be delivered to the Riverside Art Museum on the dates/times listed in the “Delivery of Work” section of this prospectus.

ENTRY GUIDELINES

Work must be ‘show ready’ when dropped off.

All hanging artwork must be framed, with screw eyes and picture wire securely attached to the back.

Work may not exceed 72 inches in length or width.

Sculpture/three-dimensional design entries may not weigh  more than 35 pounds.

Paintings or drawings on paper should be protected by a glass or plexi sheet and must be completely dry at time of delivery to the Riverside Art Museum.

All work without glass or plexi should be securely attached  to frame or substrate.

Subject matter must be acceptable for public viewing. All work should be of lasting quality.

Failure to adhere to the above guidelines  will result in disqualification of the entry.

 

CATEGORIES

Each entry must be assigned to one of the following nine categories and will be judged against other pieces within that category:
1. Drawing: graphite; black pen and ink; charcoal

2.  Drawing in color: colored pencil; colored pen and ink;  oil or chalk pastel; watercolor pencil

3.  Watercolor/Tempera: watercolor on paper; tempera on board or paper

4.  Acrylic/Oil: acrylic or oil paint on canvas, board or paper

5.  Mixed Media: collage; acrylic/oil mix; watercolor/acrylic mix

6.  Graphic: computer-generated imagery; advertising design

7.  Photography: camera-produced print imagery

8.  Sculpture/three-dimensional design: work viewed in the round including glass, bronze, jewelry and furnishings 9. Ceramics: glazed and fired clay

 

ENTRY FORMS

Entry form must be filled out and submitted online at www.pe.com/go/ studentartshow.

The entry form is available from March 15, 2017 to April 7, 2017.

Upon completion of the entry form, an electronic confirmation will be sent to the emails provided. A printed copy of the entry form must be printed and signed by the art instructor and must accompany the artwork at the time of intake. The instructor accepts responsibility for the student’s entry.

Entry forms must be completed online prior to April 7, 2017 and may not be completed at the Riverside Art Museum at the time of intake. No exceptions. We recommend that you do not wait until the last day to complete the form. We are not responsible for server issues or slowness. All entries must be completed online. No exceptions.

 

JUDGING

All artwork will be judged by a panel of respected artists and figures in the local art community. Winners will be selected from the nine categories.

Judging based on the following criteria:

1. Originality

2. Presentation

3. Composition

4. Use of Medium/Media

Artwork that is judged to best exemplify the judging criteria out of ALL entries submitted also will be selected for the following award: Howard H. Hays Sr. Best of Show Cover Award. All winning entries will be notified by the email address provided on their entry form from The Press-Enterprise and will be invited to attend the awards reception on Thursday, May 11, 2017. All participants are also encouraged to attend the awards reception. Winners will be announced in May 13, 2017 edition of The PressEnterprise. Judges’ decisions are final.

 

DELIVERY OF WORK

In order to be judged and included in the show, work must be delivered to: Riverside Art Museum 3425 Mission Inn Avenue Riverside, CA 92501
Friday, April 14, 2017:  10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.  – or Saturday, April 15, 2017:  10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

 

AWARDS

A non-cash prize will be awarded in each category. Howard H. Hays Sr. Best of Show winner will be picked from all categories.

 

EXHIBIT

The 2017 Press-Enterprise Riverside County High School Art Show will run April 22 – May 19, 2017 at the Riverside Art Museum. All pieces will be on display at the Riverside Art Museum through the duration of the show. Entries must remain on exhibit throughout the show. No exceptions.

 

VIRTUAL ART SHOW

The 55th Annual Riverside County High School Art Show will include a virtual exhibit which will consist of all winning pieces. The Virtual Art Show will be available for viewing at www.pe.com/go/ studentartshow the day after the awards show.

 

RETRIEVAL OF WORK

Entries must be claimed at the Riverside Art Museum Saturday, May 20, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. or Sunday, May 21, 2017, from  12:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Pieces not picked up on these dates are subject to disposal after 30 days. Please note the time and dates listed are the only time artwork may be retrieved. Ending time indicates the time the doors will be closed and people will be leaving. Please arrange your schedule to be there 30 minutes prior to closing.
